Honda's 2024 Ridgeline Gets a New Off-Road Focused TrailSport Trim

Honda's 2024 Ridgeline Gets a New Off-Road Focused TrailSport Trim

Honda is positioning ruggedness as a key focus of its refreshed 2024 Ridgeline pickup truck. In promotional materials, the word "rugged" is used nine times in the first two paragraphs, highlighting Honda's emphasis on the new off-road oriented TrailSport trim.

The TrailSport receives the most attention, likely due to its skid plates, all-terrain tires, and other enhancements aimed at improving dirt performance. However, the entire 2024 Ridgeline lineup sees some styling and feature updates. The Ridgeline will be available in four trims for 2024 - the entry-level Sport, mid-range RTL, rugged TrailSport designed for light off-roading, and the top-of-the-line Black Edition. All models get a new grille design. The TrailSport standouts include its unique grille style, skid plates, 18-inch wheels with grabber tires, power-folding mirrors, and a special sky-blue hue.

Meanwhile, Honda is making a branding statement with the tailgate, which now prominently displays "Ridgeline" in large lettering across the entire width. The updates aim to enhance the Ridgeline's on- and off-road abilities while establishing a bolder visual identity.

The Ridgeline's tailgate offers multiple advantages for users. It can open conventionally or swing out sideways like a door, increasing cargo access. Owners enjoying tailgating can utilize the integrated bed seating and underfloor cooler. Those needing truck capability will find the wide bed easily accommodates a four-foot sheet of plywood and features tie-down points and a composite construction that eliminates the need for a separate bedliner.

Inside, passengers will appreciate the Ridgeline's comfortable cabin and ample space. Heated front seats and steering wheel provide luxury, while the 60/40 split rear bench with hidden storage maximizes flexibility. The updated console stands out, with an enlarged padded armrest, cupholders that can each hold two large beverages, and integrated tablet/laptop storage. A standard 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster retains an analog speed readout. Meanwhile, the redesigned 9.0-inch center touchscreen located to the right offers improved response thanks to streamlined menus and a faster processor, allowing easier operation while on the move. Overall, the updates further enhance the Ridgeline's blend of functionality, passenger comfort, and on-road driving dynamics.

The Ridgeline supports easy integration of both Android and Apple smartphones as a standard feature. The spacious phone tray located at the front of the console can accommodate two devices side-by-side, although wireless charging functionality is limited to a single phone. Those upgrading to the top-of-the-line Black Edition will enjoy an enhanced audio experience thanks to higher-quality speakers included in the premium sound system. The updates reinforce the Ridgeline's focus on modern connectivity and in-cabin technology without compromising usability.

All 2024 Ridgelines continue to be powered by the 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The unibody construction remains unchanged, allowing a 1,583-pound maximum payload and up to 5,000 pounds of towing capacity. The TrailSport model enhances off-road performance with a protective skid plate safeguarding the oil pan. It also retunes the springs, dampers, and stabilizers for improved ride comfort over rough terrain.

Additional terrain modes on the TrailSport optimize throttle response and traction control for varied surfaces like sand, snow, and mud. Braving the dirt is made easier in this trim.

In addition, the 2024 Ridgeline adds the HPD appearance package with distinct styling cues like an exclusive front grille, black wheel flares, unique wheels, and badging for those wanting a sportier look.
