Top 7 must-watch shows on Disney+ from Star Wars to Jessica Jones

Disney+ is not just for kids, especially during the celebration of Star Wars this month! With its ownership of Lucasfilm and Marvel, the streaming service competes with Netflix and Hulu by offering a variety of grown-up content, including numerous award shows.
In this list, we have collected the best shows from these franchises and beyond that are worth watching. If you're looking for recommendations on other platforms, check out our guides on the best new shows on Netflix and Hulu.

1. Star Wars: Visions

The Star Wars franchise is known for its variety, but sometimes its offerings can feel redundant. However, that's not the case with Visions, an anthology series that provides reinvigorated and creative takes on the Star Wars universe. The first season, which premiered in 2021, showcased nine unique episodes from top anime studios in Japan, such as Kamikaze Douga and Trigger. The second season, launching in May expands its horizons by featuring works from studios in the US, UK, India, Ireland, Spain, and South Africa. If you're seeking one-of-a-kind stories set in the Star Wars universe, this is a must-watch.

2. The Mandalorian

The Jon Favreau-helmed series, which debuted in 2019 and recently wrapped up its third season, respired new life into the Star Wars universe. The show's classic TV format, with its episodic structure and celebrity cameos, is a vital change of speed. The story follows a brooding, helmeted Mandalorian bounty hunter played by Pedro Pascal as he navigates the galaxy's outer edges. The show's retro-futuristic robots, Space Western aesthetic, lack of family drama, and the adorable Baby Yoda -- all contribute to its pizzazz.

3. Willow

Amid a streaming world filled with Marvel, Star Wars, and nostalgic '90s sitcoms, Willow is a rejuvenating dose of closeness that will transport you back even if you haven't watched the original Ron Howard movie from 1988 (which was based on an idea by George Lucas). This fantasy series offers quests, battles, a prince to rescue, and a familiar sorcerer - features that we haven't seen in a show since the original Willow movie.

4. Ms. Marvel

Disney combines its expertise in producing coming-of-age shows with its new role as caretaker of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Ms. Marvel. Iman Vellani shines as Kamala Khan, a teenager from Jersey City who is a big fan of the Avengers and feels like an outsider in most aspects of her life. But when she receives a gold bangle from her grandmother in Pakistan, Kamala begins to realize that all the time she's spent daydreaming about having superpowers might have been leading up to this moment. On one side, she is immersed in the drama of teen life, but on the other side, she finds herself in the comics universe. What’s more, Ms. Marvel features Marvel's first Muslim superhero and marks another impressive step forward for the company in terms of innovation and inclusion.

5. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

Tatiana Maslany, known for her portrayals of complex characters in Orphan Black, takes on a new challenge in She-Hulk by adding a touch of humor to her performance. Maslany portrays Jennifer Walters and Bruce Banner, who also possesses the same green superhuman genes. Jennifer is given an opportunity to lead a new department at her law firm that handles cases related to individuals with extraordinary abilities, like herself. Maslany's outstanding acting skills make her a natural fit for the role, and the star-studded supporting cast, including Jameela Jamil, Tim Roth, and Benedict Wong, makes the show even more enjoyable and cements its place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

6. The Beatles: Get Back

Almost 50 years after the Beatles' last studio album, Let It Be, was recorded, director Peter Jackson was given access to nearly 60 hours of film footage and over 150 hours of audio captured during the creative process. He remastered the material and transformed it into a three-part documentary series, which provides an insightful glimpse into the making of the album. The documentary is a must-watch for fans of the band, as well as those who are interested in the creative process of one of the most influential bands in music history. The show captures the Beatles' struggle to finish the album while facing emotional and professional challenges, including their last rooftop concert. The documentary offers an intimate portrayal of the crew members as they performed together for the last time, clueless that this would be their final live concert and recording session.

7. Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter portrays a private detective who abandoned her superhero identity following a traumatic event. However, Jessica's history comes back to haunt her with each new case, and she is forced to confront her former self and her archenemy, Kilgrave (David Tennant), who had left her shattered. The show explores the dark side of the superhero genre with a gritty and compelling narrative.
