Shock in the entertainment world: HBO cancels Westworld

Westworld, the famous sci-fi drama series has just been deemed completed. It happens despite creators planning for the fifth season, right after the most recent season, no. four. Will things ever be wrapped up?

The decision comes after HBO concluded it was time to withdraw the sci-fi show after its latest season, but this comes as a surprising and unexpected outcome for a show that was once thought one of the network's largest successes. It truly is an acclaimed mystery show that pulled 54 Emmy nominations so far. Unfortunately, last month, co-creator Jonathan Nolan stated in a discussion that he wished the network would give the show a fifth season to wrap things up, especially since the drama has such a complicated story related to robots and humanity.

He mentions that they always intended to make a fifth and final season. Nolan also noted that they are still discussing the matter with HBO and hope to continue making the series. What's more, Lisa Joy expressed that the show has consistently been performing toward a clear finale and that Jonah and she have had a finish in mind.

But consistent ratings for the expensive show dropped off dramatically for its third season and after the third, they dropped even more for season four. Rotten Tomatoes gives fewer and fewer stars to Westworld. Plus, thousands of fans increasingly complained that the series has evolved to be too tangled and confusing in its legends and also lacked something important for the charm of characters. Dominating over all of the critics and this negative impact is the fact that CEO David Zaslav has promised bold cost-cutting. However, HBO insiders argue that preserving capital is not one of the criteria for which the series was canceled, finally.

At the same time, HBO and other cable streamers and networks are known to support artists and creators, so it would be normal to pause for a second and give the series some time to craft the perfect ending, especially since it was one of the major series for the network. A show that can glorify a beginning, middle, and end will definitely increase the perceived importance as a streaming and residence video development compared to a title that senses as incomplete.

The last season of Westworld is, however, pretty final, since it isn't leaving watchers feeling like there's more to come. The final points could be considered a bit ambiguous, as thought by the critics, but in all the seasons one could experience a mind-blowing journey that has been growing and maturing episode after episode. The whole cast is so talented, and the producers, the crew, and all the partners have been enjoying this odyssey. Kilter Films have stated that creating and filming Westworld has been a key role and a highlight in their career. Everyone expresses their gratitude for the opportunity of creating unique stories that changed the perception of AI and other mind-bending subjects.

The network HBO has a few important dramas ongoing, and if you're looking for something exciting to watch, well there's the newly launched House of the Dragon, Succession, The White Lotus and Euphoria. And don't forget about the new zombie apocalypse The Last of Us, coming in 2023. What is more, just like the series' often revived androids, it would be unreasonable to think that there will never be a Westworld continuation sometime in the future. After all, there are series and movies that get a sequel long after they're finished, like Dexter or Deadwood for example.
