Personal Style: How to discover a unique style that reflects you

1. Understand Colors and how to match them

If you haven't yet discovered a palette of go-to colors that enhance your appearance, consider getting a professional color analysis. This can simplify both dressing and shopping significantly. It's essential to know how to mix and match your colors, as well as the level of contrast that flatters you most. While some people shine in bold black and white, others may look better in softer combinations like navy and peach. Take the time to explore and let your best colors reflect your individuality and personal style.

2. Invest in classic pieces

Classic, timeless pieces never go out of style, and investing in them in your most flattering neutrals is one of the smartest decisions you can make for your wardrobe. Don’t skimp on essential items like a classic trench coat, blazer, or crisp shirt—these are foundational pieces that work well in both professional and casual settings. When you choose them in your best neutrals, they’ll effortlessly withstand the test of time and can be paired with your favorite accent colors year after year. Take the time to discover which neutrals complement you best.

3. Embrace Creative Risks

Trust your instincts! If you come across something that excites you, even if it’s outside your usual choices, don’t hesitate to go for it. The key is to be open to experimentation. Start small, perhaps with a unique piece of jewelry, and see how it feels when you wear it. If you love it and it resonates with you, remember that the best way to develop your personal style is by trying new things. After all, great personal style is all about being uniquely you!

4. Tune In to Your Preferences

When shaping your personal style, it can be helpful to begin by identifying what you don’t like. By ruling out these items, you can streamline your future shopping and outfit choices. For example, I know I don’t feel comfortable in overly flowing or bohemian styles, so those don’t fit into my personal aesthetic. By eliminating what doesn’t resonate with you, you’ll naturally become more aware of what feels good to wear. Keep a visual reference of styles you love, using it as a source of inspiration and a guide to build your unique personal style.

Be objective about your shape

Stop scrutinizing every perceived flaw when you look in the mirror—any body shape can look stunning in the right clothes. Instead of focusing on what you don’t like, shift your attention to what you enjoy showcasing with well-fitting garments. Learn to evaluate clothing based on how it fits and highlights your best features. Remember, it's not about a specific size or feeling inadequate when clothes don’t fit perfectly—it’s about the clothing itself! Discover which shapes, styles, and fabrics flatter your unique silhouette. For instance, if you have lots of curves, opt for pieces that drape and move gracefully with your body. Conversely, straighter shapes are enhanced by clothing that falls in a straight line.
