Where to feel the love in a romantic escape: New England destinations

Have you ever celebrated falling in love by going on a trip? We bet you did, and if you didn't, now's a perfect time. Because you and your partner should plan a romantic escape in New England, whether it's your first trip together as a couple or your 10th anniversary. A vacation is an ideal way to celebrate your love for one another. And why New England? As it spreads across six states, there are endless fascinating towns loaded with places to find a little downtime and leisure, gorgeous views, and, of course, romantic inns.

Newport, Rhode Island

Newport is always idealistic, from the island area and gilded villas to its stunning ocean vistas and walkable paths where you can wander hand in hand with your partner. It surely is a place that screams love. So, for the top romantic trip, take a stroll down the Cliff Walk: walk a 3.5-mile trail with the sea on your side and plenty of the renowned Newport mansions on one side. Tour one of the luxurious homes where you'll be amazed and later head to the Vineyards to sip on the local beverages. You can enjoy some Newport meals by reserving a table at The White Horse Tavern - a historic organization in the area. They have been serving drinks since 1673, so this is one of the oldest running bars in the world! Another option would be the Lobster Bar, a relaxed place where you can have tasty lobster and heavenly twilight panoramas over the ocean. Where to spend the night? Book a room at an attractive property like The Chanler, constructed inside a rebuilt 19th-century villa that also sits directly on the Cliff Walk. Or, even better, check in at the Castle Hill Inn, a Newport establishment founded in 1875 where you will have direct shore access. The Vanderbilt is another great option, being a downtown mansion owned by Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt.

Washington, Connecticut

This pastoral and lovely area of Washington, Connecticut, is the site to take a moment and breathe. Relax. Visit the area to take in all the rustic landscapes, see local flowers at the Hollister House Garden, and taste heritage ranch wines at the Hopkins Vineyard. This is a quiet spot perfect for couples searching to relax and de-stress away from the hustle and bustle of the city. While you're in town, grab a meal at G.W. Tavern, an American pub with masterpieces like a Cobb salad and chicken wings. Try the Community Table, which concentrates on locally sourced vegetables.

Get one final sense of revival at the Mayflower Inn & Spa, Auberge Resorts Collection - a super cozy hotel with plush bedding and New England countryside scenery. It also has a bonus: a wholesome wellness program with everything you need to relax: traditional treatments, health coaching, lovely atmosphere. You will leave feeling lighter than ever before.

Nantucket, Massachusetts

Nantucket is an isolated island. However, it's worth visiting especially if you want a super romantic escape. You can get there by ferry or plane. The beach is the main attraction, and many of the island's sandy beaches are a joy. But be careful, the currents can be very strong. While there, visit the Whaling Museum, the Sankaty Head Lighthouse, and the Old Mill. Eat at the Beet and enjoy a warm grain bowl and massive salads alongside fish and meat delicacies. During the summer, go to Galley Beach and don't miss out on the mussels. Even though it's a tiny island, Nantucket is packed with amazing hotels. One of them is The Wauwinet, a stylish seaside getaway with dramatic ocean views. Another one is Jared Coffin House, a historic hotel full of grace.

Lenox, Massachusetts

If you visit Lenox in Berkshire County, you will discover a remote enclave in western Massachusetts with 5,000 permanent inhabitants. It's a space where quiet is important and the visitor crowds are substituted with permanent natural views of the surrounding place. Here, you and your partner can spend your days walking in a small town and discovering important places like the Norman Rockwell Museum. This was dedicated to the life of one of America's greatest painters. Take a stroll in the Berkshire Botanical Garden, one of the oldest gardens in the country. And maybe catch a show at Tanglewood, with local and world-renowned musicians. At the end of the day, check-in at a romantic hotel like the Seven Hills, a chick boutique with 57 rooms in minimalist decor and plush beds. Plus, there are fireplaces that make the atmosphere even more romantic. You can also book a room at the Cornell Inn, a 150-year-old hotel where every room is styled differently so you can pick one that best suits your personality. Oh, and don't miss the breakfast! And if you're looking for a more intimate stay, go to the Brook Farm Inn, a hotel with only 15 rooms that feel like a home.
