This is how you can get rid of butt pimples

If you believe that after many many years of dealing with hormonal acne, someone has the secret figured out by now, you are wrong: butt acne continues to appear on so many women! The pimples can be painful and give you a real headache: you've tried so many treatments that didn't work! Sure, all kinds of acne (chest, back, face) are normal and super common, who wouldn't want to get rid of it? But what if it's not acne at all? What if you have to understand the root cause in order to find the proper treatment? Let's explore that a bit!

Sure, you can still get the regular acne on your butt like blackheads or clogged pores, the breakouts are more than often different skin affections that present themselves as acne but they are not: think folliculitis, keratosis pilaris, hidradenitis suppurativa. Moreover, all of these illnesses have different causes and treatment needs! This means that in order to get rid of your butt acne, you will actually need to know what you’re dealing with first.

So what's the cause of butt pimples?

Butt acne is usually caused by producing too much oil in your skin - just like regular acne on your face. This production is often caused by stress, hormones, genetics or lifestyle (the type of foods you eat) and all of those can determine the size and condition of your pores. When these pores are bigger, bacteria can get inside and create inflammation which clogs the skin and causes butt acne. But don't worry: everyone has butt pimples.

That's why it's vital for you to check and see what kind of condition your skin has, before buying a ton of expensive lotions and cleansers that might not even work for your butt acne. So, figuring which type of butt condition you're dealing with is a must. If you can't do this by yourself, the best way to do it is by consulting a dermatologist.

Clogged pores

Clogged pores are the mysterious, general phrase for the generic acne you’re most acquainted with, and sure, it’s very likely to have genuine pimples on your butt. When grease, filth, and destroyed cells get entangled on your skin, these block your pores and produce bumps, or what you understand that looks like acne: they are comedones, either open ones like blackheads or closed ones like whiteheads.

Could it be folliculitis?

Folliculitis happens when your hair follicles get infected and inflamed, which can cause bumps. It is also the most ordinary cause of butt acne that patients and doctors work with. Folliculitis might look like a handful of tiny bumps that have the color red or pink - normally on lighter skin tones, or purple or brown - on deeper skin tones. Often, they have a small white head. However, they are different from the regular zits. Folliculitis bumps are the effect of an irritating hair strand being blocked by inflammation, which results in a mild infection.

 What is Keratosis pilaris?

Keratosis pilaris or KP is a state in which extra keratin builds up in your hair follicles, which can result in rough small red or brown bumps, counting on your skin tone, and this condition is normally developed on your back, arms, thighs, or butt. It's important to know that KP has its roots in genetics and it is also super common. Currently, doctors have not found a treatment for keratosis pilaris, but there are proficient and home treatments to help ease the symptoms, such as:

  • Chemical exfoliation: glycolic acid, lactic acid lotion that you can apply a few times a week gently massaging, or an acid scrub once a week.

  • PDL (or Pulsed Dye Laser) can help reduce the red or brown bumps and treatments can usually cost up to $500 per session.

  • Laser hair removal - helps prevent hair growing and getting under the skin.

What is Hidradenitis suppurativa?

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) or "acne inversa" is an affection where your sweat glands get infected and can produce large, sore zits or big bumps filled with blood and pus, in some extreme cases of the condition. This illness regularly appears in places of sweaty friction like your butt, armpits, or beneath the breasts. This usually has bumps that often look like huge pimples or cystic acne. Hidradenitis suppurativa is not very common, actually, it is the least standard of all the likely butt pimples, however, it’s absolutely a condition you have to learn more about because this requires you to consult a doctor to find the right treatment. How will you know you're suffering from HS? If you don't know for sure that it is HS, definitely book a trip to your dermatologist as soon as possible. Only a doctor can identify the condition and give you the right information and treatment to stop the condition from progressing and cure it ASAP. And if you're wondering about treatments, these can be various ones: antibiotics, oral medication, steroid lotions or injections, and injectable medication in extreme cases. So don't ignore your butt acne!
